MEET THE TEAM
KRISTEN SHACKELFORD
Kristen is a school-based occupational therapist and photographer who lives in Midcoast Maine and is passionate about supporting young people, strengthening communities, and helping others find their path forward. Through her work in education and her photography business, 5iveLeaf Photography, she has dedicated much of her life to working with children and young adults. Photographing dancers is a particularly meaningful part of her work, allowing her to celebrate their dedication, individuality, and the joy and light they bring to the world. One of her favorite things and helping young people to see their own strength, artistry, and beauty as other people see them through her photography.
As someone born with a congenital heart defect who has experienced firsthand the impact of complex medical care, Kristen understands the importance of advocacy, compassion, and support during uncertain times. She is honored to contribute her professional experience, creativity, and connections within the dance and performing arts community to help the Presto Strong Project support families affected by pediatric brain cancer and create opportunities for those touched by cancer to pursue their dreams.
Preston was one of those special people whose light reached far beyond himself. As a dancer, he was someone Kristen and her family loved and admired, and someone her own children looked up to. His life left a lasting mark on their family, and Kristen believes that continuing to remember who Preston was as a person and carrying forward his legacy is one of the most meaningful ways to honor him. His light continues to guide her as she works to support the mission of the Presto Strong Project.
